March 20th, 2013 – Global Communication Networks recognized as Telx 2012 Partner of the year.
Pompano Beach, FL – Telx has once again honored Global Communication Networks Inc (GCN) with the 2012 Telx partner of the Year award. The award recognizes GCN as the Partner with the highest contracted Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR) with a weighting factor attributed to the several new logos that were contracted and colocated with Telx.
“Global Communication Networks has been awarded our coveted Partner of the Year for the second consecutive year. They have achieved this award in recognition of the most new revenue closed together during 2012, “ says William Kolman, Executive Vice President of Sales at Telx who presented the award. “We highly value the commitment and relationship we have built together with GCN. It’s this commitment that has allowed the successful growth of our partnership. We look forward to continued success together in the coming year.”
With every client and new project, GCN has vetted Telx against several other colocation companies within each geography. In each contracted sale, GCN and the client agreed that Telx was the right fit for their individual business needs. This is notable to the fact that GCN, as a carrier neutral firm, has over 150 carriers and data center providers in its portfolio. GCN and Telx have been partners for three years and company cultures synergize in a way that makes doing business together a natural fit.
“The partnership that GCN has built with Telx has enabled us to be their Partner of the Year not once but twice in the last two consecutive years.” states Chris Palermo, GCN’s founder, President and CEO. “Our customers demand colocation facilities built to the highest standards, with global reaching, carrier neutral, On Net connectivity and Telx offers some of the most connected buildings across the United States. Thanks to the loyalty of our customers and the hard work of the staff here at GCN we have proven the value of the Channel and Partners like GCN.”

Pompano Beach, FL – March 12, 2012 - Global Communication Networks, Inc. announces expansion of our advisory and sourcing services to include hosted PBX and on-premise VoIP telephony solutions.
Effectively relocating business offices is a time consuming and complicated task that involves ensuring that important office infrastructure, like telephone systems, are up and running on schedule with pre-existing telephone numbers in full operation.
One of GCN's clients, a well known institutional financial broker that has been in business since the late 1970’s faced some timing problems in late 2011 when they decided to move their offices from Manhattan to New Jersey. The company was looking for an upgraded, VoIP telephone system that would enable enhanced voice services for their new offices. However, their planning process allowed only a strict three week timeline to get everything implemented and operational.
Taking all the client's solution needs, as well as an accelerated timeline into consideration, GCN was able to source the right solution out of a group of top-tier technology partners to initiate a successful and cost-effective project. A well-regarded hosted PBX business partner successfully implemented the hosted PBX functionality, installed new programmed phones and ported over all telephone numbers to the new system, including the full trading desk and the president of the company, without any issues and within a two week timeframe.
This solution made their office move much less stressful by exceeding the aggressive timeline and was more cost effective than investing in traditional voice services. In addition to enhanced features, their new system also allows the company to scale as needed, adding remote extension-dial users as if they were sitting in the local office.
It has been nearly five months since the new services were implemented and they haven’t had a single issue and couldn’t be happier with the project, their new Polycom 335 and 450 phones, support and service.

Go it Alone!
By Bruce Judson
Husband and Wife (“When to Quit Your Day Job” Chapter 11, Page 180)
Working on your new enterprise at night and on weekends, while you keep your day job, isn’t always possible.
One entrepreneur who had to leave his existing employer—because of potential conflicts—before starting his new career is Chris Palermo. Today, Palermo’s enterprise, Global Communication Networks, Inc. (www.gcnsolutions.com), is a substantial success and one of Sprint’s top five revenue producers in the nation.
Palermo had a skill in selling and customer service, with experience as a global account manager at AT&T, and a district sales manager at Cable & Wireless. He saw the opportunity to develop a telecommunications agency in his home turf of South Florida because he believed that business customers were frustrated by the lack of good customer service, which he knew he could provide.
His approach to creating the business reflects a discipline that’s important for any go-it-alone initiative. He says:
First, my wife was working and I had one substantial commission payment that I would still receive from my previous employer. My wife and I figured out our finances and determined that we could live for a year on her income and this final payment. We were very serious. I had a year to make it work or I was honor-bound to go back to a job in the corporate world.
To start out, I worked every day with extraordinary discipline. I used what’s called the fifty-point system. Each day, you have to earn fifty points. A successful phone contact with someone at a business with whom you have never had any previous contact counts as one point. An appointment to meet with someone counts as ten points. Your day does not end until you have hit fifty points. It’s really sales 101, but as people progress, they forget the need for discipline, focus, and determination. I really think a major reason I succeeded was that I stuck to this very disciplined approach to generating new customers, and because it was my all-consuming focus.

Capitalizing on Colo
by Khali Henderson-May 2008
CHINA, HOLLAND, HONG KONG, India, Japan, Sweden, Singapore, Spain, United Kingdom —these are but a few of the exotic locations where Global Communication Networks Inc., Pompano Beach, FL, is contracted to set up colocation space for its clients this year.
This is a surprising itinerary for a telecom agency that fulfilled its first colo contract little more than 18 months ago. The company’s dramatic transformation from selling SMB accounts to building out colocation for multinational companies has been not only quick but lucrative. In its first nine years, GCN built up a base of SMB clients billing around $1 million per month. In the last two, it added another $700,000 per month in billables from colo and IP transit customers. In a very short time, colocation has come to represent 30 percent of GCN’s revenue. What makes the transformation even more astounding is the company has only six employees and not one salesperson, unless you count its president, S. Chris Palermo. Palermo founded the company in 1997 and said it has been built primarily on referrals. Over the years and as the base grew, he has added three account managers and a provisioning manager and, most recently, a project manager for the colo deployments at facilities operated by Equinix, Switch and Data, and others.
The two sides of GCN’s business are very different from one another in respect to customer size, product set and required skill sets. In fact, Palermo is considering splitting the two apart. But, business has been so brisk, he hasn’t had time to make it happen.
A few years ago, GCN began selling in earnest big bandwidth — gigabit Ethernet and waves. This, in turn, put them in touch with increasingly larger clients — many of which contacted GCN on referral to help them source circuits from diverse carriers at competitive rates. As Palermo gained the confidence of these larger customers, he began asking them about how they sourced their colocation. “[We] found that they had a void in sourcing data centers,” he said, noting they were doing it on their own and finding it difficult to find the best ones with their limited knowledge. “So, we tried to educate ourselves as much as possible on that and source and staff our company to be able to really cater to our clients.” This meant locating data centers and knowing which carriers were collocated. It also meant bringing in a project manager — not just any project manager, but a certified program manager, Vlad “Sal” Salomatoff, with experience managing data centers. Sal, in turn, is teaching the account managers how to manage some of the smaller implementations.
Palermo said the company had early success with domestic deployments and even landed work with a marquee MNC, on referral from data center Terremark Worldwide Inc., which uses GCN to source bandwidth. It wasn’t long before this MNC started asking about international colocation, specifically in Tokyo. “They are on the other end of the phone, beads of sweat are coming down my head,” Palermo said, not wanting to disappoint his new client. “I honestly told them, ‘Let me get back with you.’… I went straight to Wikipedia.....
